Street Reconstruction Project 19-1 – 4 miles of residential streets

The Contractor for this project is North Valley, Inc. The Contractor's main contact is Herb Thielbar, who can be reached at 763-274-2580 (office) or 612-716-4214 (cell). Work planned for the week of October 14 includes final sod restorations and irrigation repairs scheduled to occur Monday or Tuesday. Property owners are asked to run their overall irrigation system as normal if final repairs have yet to be performed. All streets within the project area are planned to have the final lift of asphalt pavement installed by the end of next week.

Street Reconstruction Project 19-2 – 2.3 miles of MSA streets (Foley Boulevard from 115th Avenue to 124th Avenue, Wedgewood Drive from Main Street to Round Lake Boulevard, Olive Street from 121st Avenue to Main Street) 

The Contractor for this project is Park Construction. The Contractor's main contact is Dan Bodza, who can be reached at 612-248-7760 (cell). Rene Garcia (612-360-4707) with Park Construction is the Contractor point of contact for watermain pipe replacements. Jon Halter with Hakanson Anderson is the City’s full-time project inspector, and can be contacted any time to respond to specific questions or concerns. Jon can be reached at 612-282-0725 (cell).

Work planned for the week of October 14 includes continued boulevard restorations on Wedgewood Drive. Paving of the final lift of asphalt pavement on this street was rescheduled due to rainy weather late this week, and may take place by the end of next week.

Topsoil placement and boulevard restorations will take place next week along Foley Boulevard between Goldenrod Street and 124th Avenue. Street lights that had to be moved to accommodate the new trail on the east side of Foley Boulevard are planned to be reinstalled next week. Asphalt paving is scheduled to take place on Foley Boulevard between 115th Avenue and 117th Avenue, and concrete pedestrian curb ramps will be installed along Foley Boulevard as well.

Work on the Sand Creek culvert replacements will continue throughout next week. Foley Boulevard is expected to be reopened to traffic (weather pending) by Wednesday or Thursday. Work will continue on the culvert replacements once the culverts have been constructed to a point where Foley Boulevard can be safely reopened to traffic. 

Street Reconstruction Project 19-3 – 3.3 miles of residential streets 

The Contractor for this project is Douglas-Kerr Underground, Inc. The Contractor's main contact is Ryan Kerr, who can be reached at 320-679-8937 (office) or 320-515-0046 (cell). Jason Huebscher is the City’s full-time project inspector, and can be contacted any time to respond to specific questions or concerns. Work during the week of October 14 includes placement of the final lift of asphalt pavement in the Phase 1B area (Bridgewater neighborhood consisting of Alder Street, Butternut Street, Cottonwood Street, 116th Avenue, 116th Lane, and 117th Avenue). This work was rescheduled due to recent weather impacts. New street signs and remaining yard fence restorations in Bridgewater will also take place next week.

Remaining concrete work, as well as boulevard topsoil placement and irrigation restorations, are planned next week for Springbrook Drive.

Sidewalk replacements and driveway restorations are planned for Mississippi Boulevard from Hanson Boulevard to Ibis Street.

Sod and seed installations are planned for the boulevard of Flora Street north of 109th Lane, adjacent to the Coon Rapids Ice Center.

Remaining concrete sidewalks will be installed on the East River Road Service Road between Larch Street and 84th Lane. Work on this street will also include asphalt patching in front of curb and utility replacements. 

Port Riverwalk Development Project 19-12 – Grading, Erosion Control, and Turf Establishment 

The Contractor for this project is North Pine Aggregate. The Contractor's main contact is Jake Jensen, who can be reached at 651-888-7907 (office) or 612-770-6682 (cell). Work during the week of October 14 includes continued removals and mass grading for the new Port Riverwalk development. Local traffic will continue to be able to use Zilla Street/East River Boulevard and Egret Boulevard to access Coon Rapids Boulevard. New sanitary sewer and watermain installations are planned to continue for the 1st Addition Riverwalk development. 

Anoka County Project – Hanson Boulevard (CSAH 78) Railroad Bridge Overpass

Hanson Boulevard is a County road in Coon Rapids (north of Coon Rapids Boulevard). The County’s Contractor for this project is C.S McCrossan. Harry Grams is the County’s Construction Supervisor, and can be contacted at 763-324-3114.

Proposed 2020 Projects

Planning for 2020 street reconstruction projects is underway! At the September 3, 2019 City Council meeting, staff recommended two projects: 20-1 consists of approximately 2.6 miles of residential streets, and 20-2 includes approximately 2.1 miles of Municipal State Aid (MSA) streets and 0.2 miles of local streets.
