Foley Blvd. Closing March 7

Foley Blvd. Closing to Thru Traffic March 7

Foley Boulevard will close in both directions to thru traffic from Egret Boulevard to Northdale Boulevard beginning Tuesday, March 7. The road will remain open for local traffic, emergency vehicles and for accessibility to area businesses. The recommended detour route for thru traffic is Northdale Boulevard, University Avenue and Egret Boulevard. See more details in the detour map. The tentative ending date for this road closure to thru traffic is Saturday, July 1, 2017 (weather permitting).

This road project is being managed by the Anoka County Highway Department. The Assistant County Engineer, Joe MacPherson says the following about the project:

Despite significant efforts to maintain the bituminous surface along Foley Blvd., between Egret Blvd. and Northdale Blvd., the unpredictable warm weather patterns coupled with mixed precipitation made it impossible to feasibly maintain a safe bituminous surface with the methods available to us during the winter months. At this point, with hot mix asphalt plants closed for the winter season, the safest option was to reclaim the bituminous surface and turn it into a gravel surface. Although this is not the preferred repair, it does provide a surface that is more conducive to routine maintenance activities no matter the weather condition. The County Highway Department monitors the condition of the aggregate surface on a continual basis.

In response to complaints and comments we have received the past few weeks, we will be closing Foley Blvd. to thru traffic on Tuesday, March 7. Residents who live along the corridor, buses, emergency services and delivery services will still have access. Access to businesses along the corridor will be maintained as well. Pass-through traffic is strongly encouraged to use the detour route or find an alternate route as a courtesy to the businesses and residents who live along Foley. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding and look forward to the successful completion of this very important improvement project.
