Photo Contest Deadline is TOMORROW!

The Coon Rapids Photography Contest is once again here! This contest, which is open to all amateur photographers, provides the opportunity to showcase beautiful photography in the community.

This year’s theme is Highlights of Coon Rapids Parks. Entries are accepted through 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 15, 2023. Winners will be judged in two categories: Youth (17 years and under) and Adult (18 years and older).

More entries for the youth category wanted!

Cash prizes will be awarded in both age groups:
$100 for first place
$50 for second place

The contest is organized by the Coon Rapids Arts Commission, which promotes local arts events and activities in the community.

Love My Pet Fair

Saturday, Sept. 16 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Riverview Park, 2420 105th Ave.

This is an annual event featuring fur-tastic events such as a pet/owner costume contest, kids games and more! Event goers browse dozens of vendor booths offering pet-related products, services and resources. There's even a Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest to show off your creativity!

Skating School Open House

Monday, Sept. 18, 6-7 p.m.

Coon Rapids Ice Center, 11000 Crooked Lake Blvd.

Join us on the ice! Prospective and registered students of the Coon Rapids Skating School can meet our coaches and learn more about our classes. There is no charge for rental skates or ice time during our open house.

Monday Sessions: Sept. 25-Dec. 18

Classes are offered for ages 4 and older. A variety of classes are available for beginners, adults, hockey players and advanced skaters. Classes are taught by professionally certified skating instructors.

Saturday, Sept. 30 from 10 a.m. to Noon

Sand Creek Park, 1008 Northdale Blvd.

Hang out with firefighters, check out fire trucks, a helicopter and other emergency vehicles... and even try using a real fire hose!

Step 1: Subscribe to a renewable energy program through your energy provider.

Both Xcel Energy and Connexus^® Energy have subscription programs available that allow homeowners and renters to opt-in to using solar and/or wind energy, without installing any equipment at your home.

There are flexible subscription levels that allow you to support wind turbines and/or solar arrays located in Minnesota.

Step 2: Tell Us You've Turned Over a New Leaf!

Once you've signed up for your renewable energy subscription, complete a short form to let us know. Rocky will "turn over" a new golden leaf with your name on it!

Display Your Art!

The Coon Rapids Arts Commission is launching a new program to allow local and regional artists to display their work at City Hall.

Artists must submit an application online to be considered for quarterly display terms. The commission will select new artwork every three months to be displayed at City Hall.
