Organics recycling and composting are hot topics these days… and for good reason!
Landfills in Minnesota are reaching capacity. Figuring out where to expand is not easy, so we need to work to keep organics OUT of the landfills.
Organic material emits methane gas as it rots in landfills. Methane is up to 80 times MORE potent than carbon dioxide!
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency noted these were serious threats and set an aggressive goal to have 75% of all solid waste either recycled or composted by 2030. This will improve public health, reduce our reliance on landfills, conserve energy and natural resources, and reduce pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.
Unfortunately, recycling and composting in the state has hovered at about 50% for many years.
Help us move that needle closer to 75%! Pick up some compostable bags from the Coon Rapids Recycling Center and set a small goal of collecting 1-2 bags of organics a week.
