Q: Does the trash and recycling collected at the curb actually get recycled?
A: YES! Minnesota State Statutes mandate this. The materials set in your recycling cart should be collected in a separate truck and brought to a recycling facility where the materials are sorted and sent to market. Any items placed in the cart in error will be pulled out and processed as trash. Recycling and trash trucks looks the same which confuses many. Rest assure Minnesota has many laws in place to protect the recycling process.
Q: What happens to all the items that are dropped at the Recycling Drop off Center? Are they actually recycled?
A: YES! Recycling Statutes apply to drop off centers as well. At the Recycling Center each material has an end market destination or a re-use plan. Some materials are processed on site and prepared for market, such as Styrofoam and cardboard. Other materials are collected and transferred to a facility where they are broken down and processed for market. If an end market shifts, we shift as well.
