Sharps Disposal

Medical sharps include needles, lancets and syringes. It is important to manage and dispose of them safely to prevent injury and disease transmission from needle-sticks.

How to properly contain sharps to bring to the hazardous waste facility:

  • Sharps must be placed in a rigid, puncture-resistant plastic container (example: an empty laundry soap jug)
  • Label the container: "Do not recycle: Household Sharps"
  • Seal the container to prevent spills
  • Facility staff will not handle needles or sharps. You will be responsible for placing your container in the drop-off bin.
  • No glass containers, plastic bags, cardboard boxes or loose sharps will be accepted.
  • No unused sharps still containing medication (such as unused epi-pens) will be accepted.

Bring properly contained sharps to the Anoka County Hazardous Waste Facility, 3230 101 Ave. NE, Blaine.

Learn more about sharps disposal in Anoka County here.
