Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, City staff and the project Contractor will not hold public neighborhood meetings this May in advance of street reconstruction work commencing. Schedules, City/Contractor contact information, and frequently asked questions were mailed to all affected property owners via USPS. Project-specific contact information is contained within the mailing, also available to view at the website above.

Coon Rapids Boulevard Reconstruction Project 18-13 – Reconstruction of Coon Rapids Boulevard from Egret Boulevard to the East River Road/Coon Rapids Boulevard Split Coon Rapids Boulevard is an Anoka County Highway Department owned and maintained roadway; however, this reconstruction project is being led by the City of Coon Rapids. Work during the week of May 17 includes installations of trees and landscaping in the Coon Rapids Boulevard north and southbound outside boulevard areas. Project warranty repairs will also take place intermittently. All work on this project is expected to be complete by June 2021.

Coon Rapids Boulevard Pedestrian Bridge Rehabilitation Project 18-13AThis pedestrian bridge is located northwest of the intersection of Coon Rapids Boulevard and Coon Rapids Boulevard Extension just southeast of Zilla Street. Please direct all questions and concerns regarding this construction project to the City of Coon Rapids Project Manager, Mark Hansen, who can be reached at 763-767-6465.
The City’s Contractor, Redstone Construction, will continue work on this bridge rehabilitation project during the week of May 17. Project work includes repair of bridge concrete, drainage improvements, and bridge repainting. The adjacent trail is closed to all pedestrian traffic during this work. In addition, the City will repaint the metal bridge railings, bollards, banner poles, bike racks, and benches located in this area. All work is expected to be complete by June 2021.
The Metropolitan Council Environmental Services (MCES) is currently rehabilitating its lift station (L34) adjacent to this City-owned pedestrian bridge along Coon Rapids Boulevard Extension. 2020 Street Reconstruction Project 20-1 – 2.6 miles of local City streets (streets near Norway Street and East River Road, 97th Avenue near Yellowpine Street, Norway Street near 107th and 108th Lane, and Avocet Street near 111th Avenue) The City’s full-time project inspector is Jason Huebscher, who can be contacted any time to respond to specific questions or concerns. The Contractor will be performing various warranty, irrigation, and sod repairs over the next several weeks. Residents are encouraged to contact Jason Huebscher if their irrigation system requires additional repairs.

2021 Street Reconstruction Project 21-1 – 3.0 miles of local streets (from 127th Avenue north of 130th Lane between Shenandoah Boulevard and Hanson Boulevard plus Bluebird Circle north of 121st Avenue) The Contractor for this project is New Look Construction. The Contractor’s main contact is Adam Pohlkamp at 320-980-3637. The City’s full-time project inspector is Zach Pfieffer, who can be contacted any time to respond to specific questions or concerns. Work for the week of May 17 includes installation of new concrete curb and gutter in the phase 1 area (streets in the northwest corner of Shenandoah Oaks including 128th Lane, 129th Lane, 130th Lane, Nightingale Street, Martin Street, and Linnet Street) between Wednesday and Friday (May 19 to 21). New curb will require at least a 5-day cure time before property owners will be able to re-access their driveways.
On-street parking in the phase 1 area will be required next week and will be limited to one side of the street during the cure period. On-street parking is available on Shenandoah Boulevard if needed. Notices and signs will be posted informing property owners about temporary parking restrictions.

2021 Street Reconstruction Project 21-2 – 3.6 miles of local streets (streets north of Coon Rapids Boulevard between Flamingo and Jay Streets north to 106th Avenue, Eagle Street to Avocet Street south of Egret Boulevard, and the neighborhood off Foley Boulevard between 95th and 97th Lanes) The Contractor for this project is Northdale Construction. The Contractor’s main contact is Kevin Topp at 320-493-7369. The City’s full-time project inspector is Jason Huebscher, who can be contacted any time to respond to specific questions or concerns. Work planned for the week of May 17 is entirely within the phase 1 portion of Area 1 (Flamingo Street, Grouse Street, Hummingbird Street and a portion of 104th Avenue). Hydrant/valve replacements will take place Monday through Wednesday at 103rd Avenue and Flamingo, Grouse, and Hummingbird Streets, as well as in the Hummingbird Street north cul-de-sac.
These installations require daytime water shut downs between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm. Property owners will receive notice of water shut downs at least 24 hours in advance; please check your front door for notifications. Additional work includes installations of temporary water service connections in phase 1 of Area 1 on Thursday and Friday next week.

2021 Street Mill & Overlay Project 21-6 – Asphalt mill & overlay of Robinson Drive from Egret Boulevard to 111th Avenue and Crooked Lake Boulevard from Coon Rapids Boulevard to Service Road The Contractor for this project is Park Construction. Pavement overlay operations are planned for Monday May 17. Pavement striping will be reinstated late next week.
