Construction Season is Underway!

Contracts were awarded May 5, 2020 for City street reconstruction projects 20-1 and 20-2. Property owners within project areas 20-1 and 20-2 will receive notification letters with project and schedule information this week or next. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, City staff and the project Contractor will not hold additional public neighborhood meetings this May in advance of street reconstruction work commencing. Schedules, frequently asked questions, and City/Contractor contact information will be mailed to all affected property owners via USPS. Project-specific contact information will be contained within the mailing.

Coon Rapids Boulevard Reconstruction Project 18-13 – Reconstruction of Coon Rapids Boulevard from Egret Boulevard to the East River Road/Coon Rapids Boulevard Split

Coon Rapids Boulevard is an Anoka County Highway Department owned and maintained roadway, however this reconstruction project is being led by the City of Coon Rapids. All questions and concerns regarding this construction project shall be directed to the City of Coon Rapids Project Manager. The Contractor for this project is S.M. Hentges & Sons Inc. The Contractor's main contact is Joe Miller. The City Project Manager is City Engineer Mark Hansen, who can be reached at 763-767-6465 with any specific questions or concerns.

Work planned for the week of May 18 includes completion of remaining storm sewer pipe and catch basin installations, miscellaneous electrical work for future street lights, and new road section construction for the future southbound Coon Rapids Boulevard shoulders and thru lanes. Traffic control and removals will begin in the northbound Coon Rapids Boulevard direction. Bridge rehabilitation work in both the north and southbound directions of Coon Rapids Boulevard over the BNSF railroad tracks will continue.

2019 Street Reconstruction Project 19-2 – 2.3 miles of MSA streets (Foley Boulevard from 115^th Avenue to 124^th Avenue, Wedgewood Drive from Main Street to Round Lake Boulevard, Olive Street from 121^st Avenue to Main Street)

The Contractor for this project is Park Construction. The Contractor's main contact is Dan Bodza, who can be reached at 612-248-7760 (cell). Jon Halter with Hakanson Anderson is the City’s full-time project inspector, and can be contacted any time to respond to specific questions or concerns. Jon can be reached at 612-282-0725 (cell).

Work on punchlist and completion items required on Foley Boulevard will continue next week.

Please contact the City if there are any ongoing issues with irrigation systems or other items that need to be addressed on these streets.

2020 Street Reconstruction Project 20-1 – 2.6 miles of local City streets (streets near Norway Street and East River Road, 97^th Avenue near Yellowpine Street, Norway Street near 107th and 108th Lane, and Avocet Street near 111th Avenue)

A contract for this project was awarded on May 5 to Northdale Construction. Schedule information, frequently asked questions, and project contact information will be provided via US mail within the next week. Work on this project is expected to start after Memorial Day weekend. The first area planned for reconstruction consists of streets east of East River Road including 89^th Avenue, Norway Street, and 86^th Avenue.

2020 Street Reconstruction Project 20-2 – 2.3 miles of local and MSA streets (streets near 113^th Avenue and Crooked Lake Boulevard, Crooked Lake Boulevard north of Northdale Boulevard to Gladiola Street, and Riverdale Drive and Northdale Boulevard)

A contract for this project was awarded on May 5 to Douglas Kerr Underground. Property owners should have received schedule information, frequently asked questions, and contact information via US mail this week.

The City’s full-time project inspector is Zach Pfieffer and can be contacted any time to respond to specific questions or concerns. Zach can be reached at 763-767-6431 (office) or 612-710-8243 (cell).

Work planned next week on this project includes removals and pavement reclamation on 113^th Avenue.

Anoka County Projects – Hanson Boulevard (CSAH 78) Railroad Bridge Overpass, and Hanson Boulevard from Northdale Boulevard (CSAH 11) to Main Street (CSAH 14)
