Have you seen this? This is how fiber optic cable is installed underground… the cable is used to bring high-speed internet to homes and businesses (also called broadband service).
You may notice more work like this popping up around the city. Several companies are installing fiber optic cable in Coon Rapids. These companies will be digging up areas of the City right-of-way as part of the installation process. The right-of-way looks different from neighborhood to neighborhood but can be up to 15 feet from the curb.
The City of Coon Rapids is not conducting this work. Each company must apply for a permit and is responsible for installation. Any damage caused during installation will be repaired by the companies after work is complete.
