A permit is no longer required for home occupations in Coon Rapids. In July, the City Council adopted a new ordinance that removes the requirement for a home occupation permit, along with the need for a public hearing before the Planning Commission.
City staff receive few complaints related to home occupations and many other cities no longer require permits. Home occupations must still comply with more than a dozen standards including limiting hours to between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m.
Prohibited home occupations include:
- Motor vehicle repair, maintenance, service or sale.
- Body shops.
- Repair of internal combustion engines of more than 25 horsepower.
- Raw metal fabrication.
- Welding.
- Ammunition manufacturing.
- Retail sales (except by appointment).
