Changes are underway! Demolition at Mercy Park began this week to make way for a new and improved playground. Thanks to a generous partnership with Mercy Hospital, the new equipment will have inclusive elements to make the playground more accessible to children of all abilities.
The City Council accepted a $40,000 donation from Mercy Hospital in March to make improvements to the neighborhood park, which borders the medical center. During the next several weeks, the City will replace the playground equipment at Mercy Park (3950 115th Avenue) with accessible playground elements and a rubber surface similar to the one at Lions Coon Creek Park.
Installation of the new play structure is expected to be complete by the end of September. Mercy Hospital plans to continue raising funds for a possible second phase of improvements. With an additional donation, the City may add another playground at Mercy Park next year with accessible features that cater to younger children, two to five years old.
