The City of Coon Rapids selects Bill Steiner as the new chief of police. Steiner has served as acting chief of the Coon Rapids Police Department since April and he first joined the Coon Rapids Police Department in 1997.
City Manager Matt Stemwedel said Steiner has shown great ability and continuous growth during his long tenure with Coon Rapids Police.
“We appreciate the many contributions Chief Steiner has already made within the department, and are confident he will continue to lead Coon Rapids Police with professionalism, compassion and trust,” Stemwedel said. “Chief Steiner is committed to serving the community and upholding the department’s strong relationship with residents and businesses throughout the city.”
Chief Steiner most recently served as captain of the investigations division. A graduate of Coon Rapids High School, Steiner began his law enforcement career in his hometown of Coon Rapids. He was hired as a patrol officer in 1997. Throughout his career Steiner served in narcotics, as a detective, a patrol sergeant and detective sergeant, and a patrol captain. Steiner began overseeing investigations in 2020. He holds a B.A. in law enforcement from Minnesota State University-Mankato and is a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command.
Chief Steiner is committed to providing a high level of service for the residents of Coon Rapids.
