This weekend, Highway 10 will be closed in both directions between 7th Ave. and Ferry St. in Anoka from 10 p.m. Friday night (May 6) until 5 a.m. on Monday morning (May 9). Drivers will be detoured on Highway 610, Interstate 94 and Highway 101.
The closure is necessary so crews can remove and replace water mains, sanitary sewer and storm sewer utilities beneath Hwy. 10 near 4th Ave. Nearby residents may experience some noise, lights and vibration as crews work 24-hours a day.
At the same time, Highway 10 in Elk River will close in both directions at the Highway 10/101/169 interchange from 10 p.m. Friday night until 5 a.m. on Monday morning so construction crews can remove the northbound Highway 101/169 bridge over Highway 10.
When possible, MNDOT advises motorists to use a different highway route that doesn’t go through Anoka or Elk River, like I-94 if traveling east or west across Minnesota. MnDOT also asks motorists to avoid cutting through local neighborhoods for safety. Real time traffic information is available at 511mn.org.
The work in Anoka is part of a two year project to reconstruct Hwy. 10. New interchanges will be built on the highway between Thurston Ave. and 7th Ave. The rebuilt road will improve traffic flow, decrease congestion and increase safety.
Construction is expected to be complete by spring of 2024.
