Some Coon Rapids residents may notice brown discoloration to water from the faucet. The brown water is temporary and poses no risk.
A large watermain break occurred on Wednesday, Jan. 5, creating a significant disruption to the water flow. When the directional flow of the water changes, it causes sediment in the system to stir, including iron, which leads to the brown color. While brown water may be unsightly, it is safe to drink.
Residents may want to avoid washing clothes if you notice brown water. It should pass within a day or so. Water softeners also help remove the discoloration.
