Port Riverwalk Project Update

Port Riverwalk

The Port Riverwalk neighborhood continues to grow on Coon Rapids Boulevard. Coon Rapids-based Centra Homes is developing 136 one-level and two-level detached townhomes on 43 acres of formerly City-owned land generally between Egret Boulevard and Avocet Street.

Several model homes have been built along with many other styles, now occupied by homeowners. Multiple rambler and two-story floor plans are available, ranging from about 1,400 to 2,300 square feet. The rambler floor plans will include walk-out, look-out, and slab-on-grade units. Prices vary. For sales information, visit the Centra Homes web site.

This project also involved removal of the frontage road on the south side of Coon Rapids Boulevard and realignment of several local streets in the area.

Coon Rapids Boulevard Improvements

The City also worked with Anoka County on improvements to Coon Rapids Boulevard in this area. The work includes replacement of asphalt pavement, curb and gutter work, access modifications, and a revised lane configuration. It also includes new pedestrian-scale lighting and landscaping along the corridor, along with a sidewalk on the north side of Coon Rapids Boulevard and a trail on the south side of the boulevard. Traffic signals at Avocet Street and Egret Boulevard have been replaced as part of the project. Construction began in the spring of 2020 and is now complete.

The City is also working on a plan to build a future pedestrian bridge, to help connect the north and south sides of Coon Rapids Boulevard. Some grant funding has been secured for part of the project, and the City continues to work on additional sources of funds.
