A broad alliance of Twin Cities counties, chambers of commerce, community development agencies and other partners are building a local support network to help small businesses survive and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. This initiative is currently raising funds to support small businesses in the Twin Cities. In the coming weeks and months, more information will become available on small business grants and technical assistance for businesses. Visit the website for more details.

Temporary Outdoor Dining
Effective June 1, a State of Minnesota Executive Order allows restaurants to reopen for outdoor service. In response, the City of Coon Rapids has adopted a policy to make it as easy as possible to allow the City’s restaurants to offer expanded outdoor dining. This policy streamlines the process for restaurants to quickly expand current outdoor seating areas or create new outdoor seating. More details and the application form is available on the City website here.

Questions about the City’s process may be directed to Trevor White by email.

Additional guidance from the State of Minnesota on reopening restaurants is available online.

Resources on Safely Reopening Businesses
The State of Minnesota offers guidance on types of businesses affected by Stay at Home orders, resources on creating COVID-19 Preparedness Plans, unemployment insurance, and other advice on reopening and helping employees safely return to work.

Many banks and credit unions have established new loan programs or are offering modified repayment options on existing loans for both personal and business loans. In addition, the recent Federal CARES Act passed provides a 6-month debt forgiveness to the borrower for all 504, 7a, Community Advantage, Microloan borrows and Disaster Loans from the SBA.

Open to Business Technical Assistance
The Open to Business program can provide free technical assistance to businesses as they navigate the current situation. This includes working with lenders on restructuring payments or negotiating temporary relief; navigating employee or payroll matters; utilizing tax credits; and shifting business models temporarily to online sales, gift certificates, or delivery.
