Watering Restrictions

Effective September 1, 2021
A Water Emergency is in effect. This means no watering every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The City has extended the water emergency until further notice due to high water usage, low aquifer levels and drought-like conditions.

This action is required to maintain sufficient water levels in our water towers and maintain water needs for everyday uses and firefighting. Due to drought conditions, high levels of water are being pumped through the City's system and we need residents to help conserve water.

This Water Emergency is in addition to the Sprinkling Ban which is already in effect from June 1 to August 31, which limits watering throughout the summer.

The Sprinkling Ban means:

  • Odd numbered home addresses water on odd numbered days only
  • Even numbered home addresses water on even numbered days only

Those with new sod, seed and shrubs planted within the last 30 days should also water before 10 a.m. or after 6 p.m. Private wells used for watering are exempt, however, experts agree watering before 10 a.m. and after 6 p.m. is better as otherwise water is lost to evaporation during the warmest times of the day.

Odd-Even Sprinkling Ban

An odd-even sprinkling ban is in effect every year from June 1 through August 31. This means that:

  • Odd numbered home addresses water on odd numbered days
  • Even numbered home addresses water on even numbered days

Exceptions are made for new sod, seed and shrubs planted within the last 30 days.

If necessary during periods of drought, additional restrictions may be imposed to ensure sufficient water supply for firefighting and every day necessities.

It is best to water your lawn during the early morning hours. You should also set your rain sensor to detect when it’s raining so that your sprinkler system does not go off.
