How do I get approval to raise chickens?
Before building a coop or purchasing chickens, you must submit the completed Chicken Permit Application, Supplement, and site plan along with payment to the Building Inspections Department at City Hall. A site inspection at your property will be scheduled. After the site inspection, you may build the coop. After your coop has been built, another site inspection of your property will be scheduled. When the final inspection has been passed, a permit will be issued and chickens can be purchased.
If you live in a rental property or in a property located within a homeowner's association, written consent from the property owner and/or association management is required as part of the application.
