Recreational fires (City Code 12-415) will be allowed without a permit; but subject to limitations which are strictly enforced. The following rules will apply:

Chimneas are Recreational Fires!

Chimneas are made of clay and come in various shapes, sizes and colors. Chimneas are considered recreational in nature and are subject to City Code 12-415 pertaining to recreational fires.


Recreational Fires

Burning is allowed from 9:00 a.m.-midnight any day of the week. A recreational fire is not a bon fire. Bon fires are not permitted. Recreational fires shall not exceed 3 feet in diameter and a flame height of approximately 3 feet. Only clean wood (same as you would burn in your living room fireplace) or charcoal is allowed to be burned. No burning trash, leaves or brush is allowed. (City Code 12-415) Recreational fires shall be constantly attended by a person knowledgeable in the use of fire-extinguishing equipment. An attendant shall supervise a recreational fire until such fire has been extinguished. Fire-extinguishing equipment, such as buckets, shovels or garden hoses shall be readily available for use at recreational fires. Recreational fires shall not be conducted within 25 feet of a structure or combustible material unless contained in a barbeque pit. Conditions which would cause a fire to spread to within 25 feet of a structure shall be eliminated prior to ignition. Barbeque pits in outdoor locations shall be constructed of concrete or approved noncombustible materials. Barbeque pits outside of buildings shall not be located within 25 feet of combustible walls or roofs or other combustible material.
