The Recycling Association of Minnesota has awarded Coon Rapids Recycling Coordinator, Colleen Sinclair, with the 2016 Recycler of the Year Award for her innovative programs, educational opportunities and event coordination efforts.
Sinclair manages the recycling program for the City of Coon Rapids and aims to provide residents and small businesses with as many recycling resources as possible.
Sinclair was nominated by Anoka County Recycling & Resource Solutions for her dedication and "outside the box" thinking when it comes to offering residents different options for recycling. She has also been a pioneer in offering recycling options for hard-to-recycle items such as mattresses, batteries and fire extinguishers.
Sinclair has been instrumental in establishing and expanding several recycling options in Coon Rapids, including the first organics drop-off program in Anoka County, coordinating the annual Green Expo event (designed to showcase sustainable living options and services) and organizing “Fix- It” Clinics aimed at recycling and reuse.
In addition to Sinclair’s duties at the Coon Rapids Recycling Center, she also provides educational opportunities for residents and students by giving tours of the facility. Sinclair is a resource for schools in the community to assist in educating students on the importance of recycling and how recycling protects our environment.
