No doubt you have noticed all of the rain so far this fall, and there’s more rain in the forecast in the coming days. The City would love to team up with residents to help keep catch basins in the street free and clear of leaves, grass and debris. If you are out, and you notice a catch basin on your street is blocked, please help us by removing the debris and disposing of the material. The City would greatly appreciate it! City crews monitor catch basins all year long, but the City also needs residents to help as well and partner in this effort.
Clear catch basins help to keep water flowing smoothly into the storm sewer system and eliminate water backups in the street. Keeping leaves, grass and debris out of the street and out of the storm sewers is also vital for local waterways to reduce pollution. The City has a robust Storm Water Pollution and Prevention Program that involves sweeping leaves and debris out of the street, inspecting curb and gutter systems and making sure there is proper flow and drainage of excess water from city streets. You can read more about this program on our website. Residents play a vital role in partnering with the City by not putting leaves, grass clippings and other debris in the street.
